DUQ1-017E-2 Metal loss and heat crack of FOV atomizer Pocket on Cylinder Cover
14 Downloads

Cases have been reported where cylinder cover were found like burning off and / or heat crack in the vicinity of the pocket for fuel nozzle atomizers is attributable to attack by high temperature corrosion such
as Vanadium attack (See to Fig.1).
The most probable cause of this phenomenon would be resulted from the following reasons
Probable Causes for High Temperature Corrosion
2-1 When such heavier oil as high content of vanadium, sodium, sulfur and/or ash had been used.
2-2 When long and continuous operation had been made with grown carbon flowers on atomizer, F.O. atomizing is obstructed by growth of carbon flowers, a part of fuel sticks to cylinder cover surface, resultantly, temperature of such surface goes up remarkably due to burning of stuck oil.
2-3 When F.O. atomization is poor.
2-4 Torque-rich operation causes in sufficient combustion, resultantly, exhaust gas temperature is high.
